Went on my first trip down to Toronto today with . Overcast sky was perfect for photos. The city was bustling with people and photo opportunities, and we even took detours around the more sketchy parts of town behind Queen Street West, but it was totally worth it, considering the beauty we found.

It was great, but looking at the photos I took I'm not sure I'm at the level I want to be. Today I only walked around the city, just, er. Taking pictures. It's nice and all, but I want my photographs to mean something, and so far it's just an object composed in a frame. The image itself doesn't evoke any emotion in me or a viewer. I think it's time for me to step it up a notch.

Clearly, the city hasn't changed me quite as much as I'd hoped — I've seen photographers running around asking people to snap their photos without any hesitation at all. Perhaps the idea of asking for a photo by someone else just seems so odd to me, and yet I'd pose for a photo any time, but I can't push myself to do it just yet.

Hm. I think I'm going to take another trip out downtown sometime soon … no idea when, though. I want to be awake in time to catch the sunrise on a cloud-free morning, but I'm not sure that the buses will get me there on time. Plus, I'm quite lazy.

Hmm.

— okay, I've decided. I'm getting up at 5 tomorrow and catching the 6:00 bus downtown. If I'm quick enough I'll make it to the Queen's Quay to catch the sunrise, and I can sit alone with only my camera and my own thoughts.

… So it's settled. Looks like it'll be an early night for me. Wish me luck!
